The Edge of Flooding is a phrase that pertains to pertinent happenings that momentarily arrest us, appearing to depart as swiftly as they come. Still we know on a visceral level that they remain sustained and reconfigured. Rebekah Stuart feels these happenings are concurrent with a larger force that is often unforeseeable in a linear way, however it is still inherent in us and when we keep this tender conversation open, we may arrive at a place much like an eloquent symphony we hear.
As Stuart questions and creates new worlds, she seeks to delineate a truth closer to our primordial being. Stuart chooses nature as a canvas as she feels it provides a counterpoint that resonates in us. A contrapuntal or magic flow occurs in views from a distance or even in vestiges after walks up close. These traces connect with an inner craving when we are separated from nature and return to it.
Our imagination also becomes vast in nature. As one walks at night, most forms become abstracts blurring into a field. In a fashion, Stuart paints the light in differing strengths through moving bodies onto clustered clouds from many skies and varying forms. There are traces of feet and animals, visitors from afar, the wind, the foliage and the air. All of her happenings as well as her universal understandings of it gather together; a recurring salient figure reminding the artist to remember.
