Miranda Smith
Opening Night
Friday 1st July | 6pm – 8pm
◼︎
Miranda Smith presents Coexistence, an installation of a dynamic light ‘painting’. This installation examines the role of shadow as a catalyst. Shadow is often considered to be devoid of colour and emblematic of sadness, however in this light ‘painting’ shadow is the catalyst for striking saturation and forms within the composition acting as means to explore the felt-subconscious.
Expanding on experiential artworks made in Hong Kong with Gallery Jeeum in 2020, this series consists of an experiential installation and contrasting light photographic prints. These present multiple layers in which to experience light phenomena through, celebrating its multimodal and complex relationship with our deeper modes of sensation.
Artist Bio
Miranda Smith is a Hong Kong and Naarm/Melbourne based light artist working with installation, digital print, sculpture, and painting. Smith uses perceptual fallacies to create dynamic and experimental art experiences for her viewers. She reinterprets and recontextualizes visual stimuli, lived experiences, and intriguing theories into her light based practice. Smith aims to involve the viewer in questioning their own experience of her work, through unusual imagery and playful influence on our visual system.
