This body of work is made up of acrylic paintings and iPad prints that depict many of the tracks and parks in the city of Yarra, and aims to emphasise how important these spaces were during the lockdown periods for the wellbeing of the residents. It demonstrates how important “walkability” is in urban areas. Bird numbers obviously increased, and pollution all but disappeared thereby creating a healthier environment.

Artist’s Bio

Essentially autobiographical, Charlotte Clemens’s art expresses her views about issues she encounters in daily life as a woman. Influenced by, amongst others the Mexican muralists, she mainly uses figurative imagery to facilitate comprehension and to utilise her drawing skills, but has produced abstract work particularly in response to emotive issues.

Originally trained at the National Gallery Art School (now the VCA) under John Brack and Lenton Parr, she worked in London painting theatrical sets for children’s pantomimes, followed by briefly living and working in Mexico. She continues to make art after her retirement from 30 years of classroom teaching and 9 years lecturing at Victoria University.
