Artist Statement
This series of works embodies the cyclical journey of transformation, mirroring the life cycle of a blossoming plant. Through each piece, I explore the stages of growth—starting with the quiet, unseen foundation of The Sow, advancing through the anticipation of The Bloom, and culminating in the full expression of The Fruition. Each work reflects a moment of potential becoming realised, capturing both the fragility and grandeur inherent in nature's process of becoming.
The delicate interplay of light, form, and texture invites the viewer to witness not just the physical blossoming of a plant, but the internal, often invisible metamorphosis that happens in tandem. It is a visual manifestation of the transformative potential inherent within us all, a reminder that growth is a profound personal journey and an expression of something far greater than the self.
Artist Bio
Thang Do is a queer Vietnamese artist whose works embody the human obsession with spectacles as means of escaping reality and fuelling hope. As a migrant worker obsessed with chasing the 'American/Australian' dream, Thang manifests empowerment in his work and invites others to do the same. Working with domestic materials such as paper, glitter, and foil, the artist uses techniques like embellishing, scoring, and folding, to assemble fantasised vessels resembling his constant travels between the physical reality and the wishful realm of the privileged and powerful.
