Artist Statement
Susannah Collins’s multidisciplinary practice spans painting, embroidery, and soft sculpture, reflecting on the interconnectedness of human experience and the natural environment. Through freehand machine embroidery and slow stitching, she creates thread sculptures that evoke the idea of nature as a ‘seamstress,’ weaving, binding, and mending fragments into new forms.
Drawing inspiration from the organic rhythms of nature and the meditative process of art-making, her work invites quiet reflection on cycles of transformation and renewal. By blending traditional craft techniques with contemporary narratives, Susannah explores themes of memory, materiality, and the delicate balance between growth and decay.
