Artist Statement
Serene Body is a mixed-media digital collage reflecting the harmony between mind, body, and soul. The piece originated from a series of photographs captured by Cunningham, focusing on the interplay of texture, light, and shadow. Each image includes fragments of the artist's surroundings—textures, light patterns, and organic shapes. By combining these photographs with original paintings, the artist created a layered composition. Through digital editing and abstraction, these elements were transformed into a visual expression of serenity and balance. Inspired by the delicate beauty and fluidity of the Rococo era, the work incorporates soft, flowing forms blended with natural landscapes that influenced Cunningham’s life in Tasmania. This process facilitated the development of a visual language bridging the historic and the contemporary, offering a personal interpretation of spirituality and interconnectedness. Viewers are invited to pause for a moment of reflection, connect with the gentle rhythms of nature, and open themselves to a deeper sense of spiritual awareness.
Artist Bio
Chloe Cunningham is an emerging Australian artist, originally from Tasmania, currently based in Melbourne, Victoria studying Visual Arts at RMIT University. Deeply inspired by textures, Cunningham draws on her upbringing surrounded by Tasmania’s natural landscapes as a foundational source of inspiration. Her artistic process begins with photographing unique textures she encounters in everyday life, which she then merges with her own paintings and layered compositions. This blending of elements results in intricate works that explore themes of human nature, connection, and the search for meaning and purpose. Cunningham’s practice reflects on the fleeting nature of human existence, using abstraction and the blurring of familiar textures to evoke a sense of wonder and introspection. By integrating natural and man-made textures, she offers viewers a deeply personal perspective on the interconnectedness of life and the world around us.
