Artist Statement

Ruskin Black is a mixed media artist stemming from a fashion design background, based in Naarm and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung land. Ruskin draws inspiration mainly from the social, cultural, political and environmental zeitgeist. Ruskin practice media comes from inspiration first before selecting which media or mixed media to create an artwork/s or collection. His media have ranged from textiles, sculpture, decorative, photography, ceramics, painting, taxidermy and many more. Ruskin also works with a sustainable principle, obtaining second-hand or recycled materials as much as possible. A continuous element in Ruskin’s work is the use of black and the absence of colour, each artwork in a singular piece with no two pieces being identical. 

Artist Bio:

Ruskin has mainly worked independently throughout his artistic career with private sales to clientele globally. His works have been sold and shipped to and across Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Austria, France, Canada and the UK.
