Rachel Tai | Abstract #7

Artist Statement

Tai is a Melbourne-based artist interested in interrogating the spectrum between realism and abstraction, her dynamic compositions are characterised by a strong emphasis on colour, shape and navigation of negative space. Using images from contemporary fashion magazines, Tai uses a process of image collection and collage to develop the compositions for her highly rendered paintings. Tai's work stems from an interest in exploring the boundaries of reinterpretation, reproduction, and replication and the relationship these processes have with reality and authenticity.
