Artist Statement
Hold Close is painted from a photograph of my late Mum taken when she was in her twenties. My Mum passed away in 2021 from lung cancer and I often find myself going through old photos of hers. I really wanted to capture the motion and emotion between the two of them as I can feel that longing embrace I wish I could have with her when I look at it. The title is a reminder to hold your loved ones close.
Artist Bio
Nita grew up in regional Victoria and after some time living overseas moved home again, before finding herself in Melbourne for the third time in 2022. Nita finished her bachelor’s degree in Psychological Science in 2023 and is now dedicating her time to establishing herself as an artist, completing her first solo exhibition at Red Gallery in 2024. Alongside art, Nita works as a horse trainer, End-Of-Life Doula and runs life drawing sessions in Thornbury.
Nita practices with a range of mediums including graphite, charcoal, and acrylic but found a love for oil paint which is now her predominant medium. Through her art, Nita explores her experiences and observations of the intricacies and complexities of human nature, capturing the essence of individuals with a unique perspective.
Her depictions of individuals capture a raw and emotive essence that she hopes will resonate with her audience. Going forward, Nita aims to expand on and further explore her preferred medium and delve deeper into the human psyche to challenge both herself and her audience through her creative practice.
