Artist Statement

This series of photographic works by Miranda Smith emerges from a desire to paint with light, using a dynamic process combining her light installation works and water, using a digital camera to preserve the millisecond interaction in ink. The works unveil layers of luminous phenomena, inviting viewers to delve into the intricate and multimodal relationship between light, our deepest senses and the fleeting nature of memory. 

Artist Bio

Miranda Smith is a Hong Kong and Melbourne-based light artist working across installation, digital print, sculpture, and painting. Miranda uses our perceptual fallacies to create dynamic and experimental art experiences for her viewers, aiming to involve her audience in questioning their own experience of her work. She made her 2020 debut with her solo exhibition Lucent Nebulous with Gallery Jeeum in Hong Kong. In 2024, Miranda was honoured with the Biennale of Colour and Light award. She has exhibited extensively in Hong Kong and Australia.
