Artist Statement
Jaffer contemplates her work as an agency for exploring their inner world. Working in an intuitive abstract manner, she seeks to harness the use of colours in a way that is reflective of personal recollections. This work is a materialisation of sensations experienced at a particular place and moment in time. While this deeply personal and cathartic experience is perhaps concealed, the essence of which they wish to connect with their audience remains. Jaffer draws great inspiration from contemporary artists who also use colour in bold yet reticent ways, such as Brazilian artist Sophia Loeb, who creates almost otherworldly sensations. It is with the intention that Jaffer creates the crux of their story by focusing on how colours interact with each other. Perhaps appearing to be quite chaotic and frenzied, however, each stroke is placed with a determined purpose.
