When Louise Curtin paints, she is intensely involved in getting the paint on the canvas. An eagerness flows into the piece. Her methodologies are colour, expressive line and brushstroke. Interestingly the final works aim to give peace and a journey for the viewer. The irony is that out of a chaotic beginning develops a painting speaking of purposeful calmness.

Lifescapes is about experiences in the environment and with friends, over the last 6 years. There is an increased stillness in them compared to her earlier works. COVID provided time to settle with the pieces and the courage to change elements that weren’t working. A keener eye has developed and hence a deeper journey with each of the works.

All her paintings aim to engross the viewer in beauty, regardless of subject. Balance, in colour and composition, is vital in order to portray immediacy. Works are painted in situ and in a studio environment. She hopes that a visceral power emanates from the paintings and enters the viewer.
