JC's work in 'Rejected/Projected' explores hybridity and his sense of belonging. Australian born of Filipino and European descent, his blended heritage coupled with his queerness, creates an internal tension. This tension fuels a perpetual cycle of questioning and redefining his identity, which often leads to a heightened sense of otherness and ambiguity. This cycle is translated in his art with a use of bold colour, mark making and personal symbols.

Artist Bio

JC (he/they) is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. Inspired by his great uncle who was a South Australian landscape painter, JC followed his footsteps into art by beginning his vocational training at the Southbank Institute of Technology in Brisbane, before going on to complete his Bachelor of Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts.
