As a colour field artist, Honey Honeywilson's painting practice explores the context of space within shapes and colours. The recent artworks showcased here are made using synthetic polymer paint on canvas, each measuring 40 x 40 cm. These paintings were influenced by Honey's interest in fashion and history, particularly the intricate folds and drapes found in historical garments, especially from 18th Century Europe.
Each artwork in this collection serves as a dialogue between the past and present, blending abstract shapes and vibrant colours to evoke the essence and movement of historical fabrics. Through the creative process, Honey aims to reinterpret the elegance and complexity of historical clothing into a modern artistic expression, inviting viewers to appreciate the aesthetic of these old forms.
Working with synthetic polymer paint on canvas allows Honey to explore texture and depth in a unique way, enhancing the tactile qualities of the paintings. This medium enables Honey to achieve a richness and subtlety that complements the intricate themes of historical fashion, bridging the gap between art and historical textiles.
Honey's artworks strive to show the abstractness of historical fashion through a contemporary lens, inviting viewers to contemplate the intricate relationships between form, colour, and cultural history.
