In this exhibition, Clive Jones explores the ability of the natural world to create sublime moments of stillness and reflection.

Working from memories, photos and drawings collected on his travels, he translates the world into painterly realism, using a slightly altered perspective to provoke our sense of curiosity.

Using oil on canvas, he finds the balance between planning and spontaneity by first drawing, then fast blocking pictures, followed by a slow fine-tuning of details.

Looking at these images, the viewer can arrive at their own existential questions.  Because the human figure is largely absent from these paintings, it leaves us space to see ourselves while appreciating reality for its richness.

Artist Bio

Clive Jones has had a long career behind the scenery in theatre, dance and opera, then transitioning to television and feature films.

He has worked as a scenic artist, set painter, properties master, art director and finally as a specialist scenic artist.

This is his third exhibition since 2010.
