Inspired by her extensive travels, Kennedy’s exhibition Journal is a result of a residency in Vallauris, France in 2020. As part of the Artist In Residence at AIR Vallauris, Kennedy was involved in a group exhibition in the heart of the old city in the 16th century Chapelle de la Miséricorde. Unfortunately due to the pandemic the exhibition was cut short. Kennedy is presenting these works, a series of small oil sketches on hardwood panels, exploring the local area of Vallauris. Using photography and sketches, she developed these sketches into a series of monochromatic blue snapshots on handcrafted ceramic tiles. Creating observational storyboards, Kennedy has captured fragments of local colour and some of the many characters of Vallauris in order to give permanence to a memory: a souvenir.
Artist Bio
Caroline Kennedy is a multidisciplinary Australian artist residing in Melbourne. She has exhibited both in Australia and Europe and has been the recipient of a number of awards, grants and residencies including a residency in Kerala, India and at the Cité Internationale Des Arts in Paris. Her most recent was at the AIR residency in Vallauris, France. Kennedy is also an award winning production designer in film and TV with over 25 years experience.
