A devotee of the ballet, Andrew Conners has captured the power of the human form in motion, with a thrilling attention to composition and detail in his new paintings. His subjects were shot during a workshop with the feted New York dance photographer, Lois Greenfield, and are informed by a rich history of the ballet dancer motif in art history.

Andrew’s figures are a study in dynamic elegance, with a nod to past masters of the Venetian School, executed in a reductive palette suggestive of William Blake. These painstaking works of size seize upon moments barely seen during the action. They well describe the kinetic energy and formal purity of dancers in mid-flight.
