Andrea McCuaig paints in response to her connection with movement. Acting as a metaphor of life’s journey, the sense of ones being that is triggered in the physical and emotional energy of dance and yoga is the foundation of these works.
Through the artist’s personal knowledge, movements and muscle memories inspire and translate into her artistic process. Imagined sensations experienced through dance are then used to ‘choreograph’ the painting. The artist conjures a theme, character or aspect of movement as the starting point to these works. Like a dance the paint flows in response to a kinetic improvisation to bring the painting to life.

The abstraction of form in these works is balanced by a series of gestures and form with color and kinesthetic paint application. The translating of movement captured and compressed in time and space with the embodiment of a character, quality or mood.
Andrea McCuaig is a graduate in Fine Art Painting and Graphic Design she has exhibited within Australia for the past 12 years and holds collections in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne.
