Alexia Wheeler

Nature’s Poetics

1 August – 18 August 2012

Nature is always informing us of life, growth, transition, ending and death. Alexia Wheeler observes nature as a comfort to the reality of our mortality. These observations are then transformed into watercolour drawings and sculpture. “There is something about this process where I am arresting a transitional stage of decay in space that seems to soothe. They are descriptions about why things are the way that they are”. The three themes in these works are derived from the Chinese character, Li. Li meaning “universal order/universal law,” as well as “organic patterns.” Each of these three themes is arranged into a grid network in an attempt to display an overrall pattern; at once showing the individuality of nature and also its infinteness.
