The paintings and drawings from artist Tania Matilda are broken-down visual planes, fragmented into component shapes, merging to produce an abstract image. Influenced by the haphazard automatic drawings from the early 20th century, Matilda’s pen wanders around sharp, intersecting forms. Using found refuse as objet trouvé – two cupboard doors and a window for example – her scavenger’s eye and brush sharply describe neo-Cubist triumphs of composition, suggestive of the best of Futurism’s graphic poster legacy.
