Susie Leahy Raleigh

Toxidrome

6 July – 23 July 2011

“Conjuring the spirit of the ‘psychedelic’ experience remains critical to the aesthetic, and the idea of expanding consciousness – finding a bridge between inner and outer worlds – is central to all of the artworks in the exhibition.” Sebastian Moody

The work consists of abstract paintings that endeavour to stimulate the senses and provoke an intoxicating affect in the viewer. A dynamic energy is portrayed in the paintings by pouring psychedelic and iridescent inks onto Perpex without constraint. The paintings are informed by a personal response to atmospheric phenomena, altered states of mind and consciousness.  The exhibition explores psychedelic ideas and aesthetics.
