The work consists of abstract paintings that endeavour to stimulate the senses and provoke an intoxicating affect in the viewer. A dynamic energy is portrayed in the paintings by pouring psychedelic and iridescent inks onto Perpex without constraint. The paintings are informed by a personal response to atmospheric phenomena, altered states of mind and consciousness. The exhibition explores psychedelic ideas and aesthetics.
Susie Leahy Raleigh studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture) at the VCA in 1987, followed by an Advanced Diploma in Fine Art at RMIT in 2008 and a Masters of Fine Art at RMIT in 2010. She has exhibited in group exhibitions at RMIT and Off the Kerb Gallery, Collingwood, and had a solo exhibition at New White Gallery in Melbourne in 2009. In 2007 she was an artist in residence at Moolap Primary School, Geelong, and in 2008 she was an artist in residence at St. Augustine’s School, Geelong. Her work is held in various private collections. This is her first exhibition at red gallery.
