Returning to a stricter figurative mode, Steve May’s recent paintings assimilate a playful but earnest nod to masters like the early Australian Modernists. Executed with fervour and controlled splashes of dynamic colour and shading, We Are Not Ourselves hints to a darker, more thought provoking subject than what one sees.
