Steph Wilson

Interior Vegetation

30 March – 16 April 2011

Steph Wilson’s paintings explore modern institutional and corporate style interiors. Through representational painting she comments on the staged nature of these interiors as well as the sense of spatial illusion created through the medium. Tensions emerge though inconsistencies in detail, subtly distorted perspective, unusual colour combinations and exaggerated tone. Her works inspire a sense of unease in reflecting upon the nature of the corporate interiors and how social dynamics are implied and mediated through such spaces. Distorted chairs and pot plants are used as an eerie metaphor for the presence of people within the scenes.

Steph Wilson recently completed a Masters of Fine Arts (painting) at RMIT. This is her first exhibition at red gallery.
