Sourcing her subject matter from the immediacy of the world around her and elevating it to a visually engaging work Sally creates a sense of the personal and the intimate in what she creates and expresses through her work.
Artist Bio
After graduating with a Master’s in Printmaking from the ANU School of Art in 2002, Sally lived and worked in Japan before returning to Australia.
The nature of printmaking composition and design elements, being essentially flat and decorative, has transferred her approach to her painting practice.
Sally’s time in Japan exposed her to a Japanese aesthetic and the introduction to Collage with their incredibly diverse range of papers and the seemingly arbitrary combinations of pattern and decorative elements that contribute to their compositional design elements.
The domestic environment is a constant in Sally’s work as a source of inspiration.
Sourcing her subject matter from the immediacy of the world around her and elevating it to a visually engaging work.
There is a sense of the personal and the intimate in what she does, complemented by the essentially flat, decorative influences of her Printmaking practice.
Sally’s work is a fusion of these components and influences.
