Anecdotal Evidence

12 September – 29 September 2012

Richard Collins’ exhibition Anecdotal Evidence presents a selection of oil paintings and works on paper in the traditional genres of still life, landscape and interior with figures.

For Collins, one role of painting is to return us to the daily facts of our lives with a heightened attentiveness.  “In my painting I am trying to notice what is right in front of me. A subject catches my eye. Then, whether working from the motif or from drawings, that seductive first impression is filtered by memory and transformed by the demands of each painting’s evolving composition. To the extent that I have succeeded in my work, these paintings and prints prompt in the viewer an oscillating awareness of the figurative subject and the artifice of its depiction.”
