LAND(E)SCAPE

12 - 23 March 2025

G3

Opening Night

Friday 14 March | 6 - 8 pm

◼︎

Land(e)scape showcases a unique collaboration between a photographer and a ceramic artist, bringing together two distinct yet deeply connected ways of experiencing the land. While the aerial images reveal the graphic grandeur of the land, the ceramic vessels interpret these details in intimate, tactile forms, exploring the realms of imagination and expression. Together, they evoke a sense of connection to place and the meditative stillness of losing oneself in nature’s vastness.

The exhibition invites one to explore the interplay between nature’s unfiltered beauty and the human trait of introspection and release. Featuring abstract aerial photography around Lake Eyre alongside delicate porcelain vessel forms inspired by these images, the exhibition captures the ethereal patterns, textures, and hues of this unique landscape.

At its heart, Land(e)scape celebrates the beauty of transformation and the ever-evolving relationship between the landscapes we see and the inner journeys they inspire. Its an invitation to pause, reflect, and discover meaning in the subtle balance between what is seen and what is felt.

Artist Bio

Ram Subramanian

Ram Subramanian’s passion for photography began after relocating to New Zealand from India in 2003, where the country’s diverse landscapes sparked his fascination with light, composition, and visual storytelling. Immersed in nature’s raw beauty, he developed a deep desire to capture its essence through his lens. Despite a demanding corporate career, Ram always found time to explore the outdoors, seeking unique moments to photograph. In 2020, he completed a Certification in Professional Photography, which solidified his technical skills and artistic vision. That same year, he founded ‘Mind and Shutter,’ a platform to showcase his work and connect with like-minded nature enthusiasts. For Ram, photography is more than just a creative outlet—it’s a way of discovering the stories nature has to tell. His work has earned recognition, with features in NZ Photographer Magazine’s ‘Excio Top 10’ section and a Highly Commended award at the Australian Photographer of the Year 2022 competition.
