Yokohama Triennale, 2020. 17th Athens Digital Art Festival. Forest for the trees

Forest for the trees is an ongoing project exploring the lived experience within treed spaces. It is a compound view opening a series of complex relationships with the world. The world of plants, animals and fungi imploring us as their estranged partner to re-enter their (our) domain.

The tree as a heroic figure - stoic, individual, magnificent - is a common trope of landscape painting and photography. Forest for the trees eschews this reading by adopting a preference for the field condition - the ecosystem is paramount. Here viewers observe not any individual or exemplary specimen, but are invited to enter an immersive and beguiling complexity.

The emergent spaces in Forest for the trees are immediately recognisable yet simultaneously strange and remote, an illusionary space where we expose something not explained.
