Creativity In-transit explores the act of packing a bag for travel and the collaborative and processual encounters experienced while in-transit.
Using a variety of media, the exhibition includes interactive installations, video, and diagrammatic images. Each work plays on experiences that we have when traveling: from moments of disorientation, negotiating materials, interpreting the aesthetics of transit found in emergency instructional diagrams, or the confined and shared accommodation spaces in hostels. In moments of transition, often attention and actions are shifted beyond an individual’s intentions, in favour of collaborative and contemplative processes. Visitors are invited to take a “hands on” approach as they undertake the process of packing a bag.
This exhibition is part of Kaya Barry’s practice-led PhD research into encounters that travellers have with an array of objects, people and environments.
