Charlotte Clemens
Opening Night
Friday 22 Sep | 6 - 8pm
◼︎
Essentially autobiographical, Clemens’s art expresses her views about issues she encounters in daily life.
Influenced by, amongst others, the Mexican muralists, she mainly uses figurative imagery to facilitate comprehension and to utilise her drawing skills but has produced abstract work, particularly in response to emotive issues.
Artist Bio
Originally trained at the National Gallery Art School (now the VCA) under John Brack and Lenton Parr, she worked in London painting theatrical sets for children’s pantomimes, followed by briefly living and working in Mexico.
She continues to make art after she retires from 30 years of classroom teaching and 9 years of lecturing and teaching at Victoria University.
