This recent series of work stems from surveying aerial images of cities, suburbs and country.  Capturing forms and presenting them in isolation using a limited colour palette. All works contain geometric forms from rural landscapes carpeted with paddocks and roads, tightly packed city buildings, large factory buildings and suburban houses with networks of roads weaving throughout.

Directional fantastic uses forms from these environments that are representational to the world Catherine Hockey moves through and is familiar with. They areforms sifted from the many to the minimal in geometric form. By lifting a form out of the city or landscape Catherine aims to reduce it, to create a more elegant form in perhaps a quieter, reflective mood. The dichotomy of the dynamic and the static talk of the stop/start nature of how we live, how we observe, how we perceive.
