‘Every life leaves a trace’ – Walter Benjamin
A seed is the trace of a tree – the one from which it fell, and the one into which it will grow. We live in the present, but are surrounded by signs and traces of what has been and what will be, those who have been and those who will be.
We ourselves are vessels of memory, ancient genetic codes, future plans and dreams. This moment is the merest pinpoint in time’s unhurried continuum, yet the traces contained within it hold all the richness of our history and our future.
