16 March – 2 April 2016: Works on Paper

GALLERY 1, 2 + 3

Vulnerable, organic, hand-made or industrial, culturally sensitive, an outmoded technology, housing for architects, flammable evidence, packaging for consumption; as one of the oldest art-making tools, paper is all this and more. Works on paper, in all their inventiveness and rich variety, demand close scrutiny and reinvigorate the original in a world of simulation, replicas and screen over-saturation.

Newly nominated for this years’ Swan Hill Print and Drawing Prize and the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing, artist Barbara Bolt uses pen and ink to evoke a noir sense of place, whether it is urban, rainy Melbourne, or the pop-up shrine outside the late David Bowie’s apartment in NYC.

Tim Jones and Julie Silvester are print-makers, joined by collage artists like Lucy Dyson and Sean Richards to demonstrate the diversity of paper as a medium, when it becomes waxed, rolled, hung, caged, laser-cut, inkjet printed, screen-printed, moistened, monotyped, mezzotinted, inked, glued, stencilled and pencilled.
