15 January – 1 February 2014: Brigitta Wolfram – When Thirteen Moons Can Yield No Light

This series of bold and irreverent multi media works has allowed the artist to release and confront the subconscious darkness that has been generated through her experience of fear, grief, anxiety and remorse. The result is a body of work that is poignant, emotionally compelling and psychologically provocative. Both in form and content they reflect the presence of a genuine struggle.

Blending collage with bold paint strokes the influence of Cy Twombly and Antoni T├ápies is clear, as Wolfram’s works are spatially ambiguous and richly textured. Drawing on ancient mythology, Wolfram’s works have also been inspired by a number of macabre tales, relating to chaos and harmony, purity and vice, power and pain.
