14 November – 1 December 2012: Paula Ewington – Expressionistic Impressionism

Gallery 3

Inspired by the aesthetics of the natural world and the dramatic seasonal changes in the Dandenong ranges where she resides, Paula Ewington is enamored with color and texture.Informed by movements such as Impressionism and Post Impressionism, her gouache on canvas works are similarly produced en plein air.

Ewington’s landscapes are less about representational tonal modeling and more about the juxtaposition of contrasting hues in her reduced colour palette. This technique pervades an elusive, shifting quality that is intended to delight, inspire and mesmerise the viewer. Ewington’s painterly works evidence the consummate skills she gained in mark making and drawing through her training as a print maker.
