Opening Wednesday 7th November, 6-8pm
Tan Yifeng, an accomplished and widely-exhibited practitioner of paints, prints and oils (recently represented in a number of solo’s in Beijing, Canberra, Melbourne) brings a new collection Adrift to Red. Composing absurdist, graphic studies – an ornate piece of china floats a party of ten upon a scrawled sea – Yifeng examines immigration, asylum and colonial Australia as being a history of ‘boat peoples’
In conjunction with Tan’s Adrift, Denise Keele-Bedford will present ‘A Gold Boat for a Gold Coin’ an installation and initiative in which the artist will offer a series of origami paper crafts in exchange for a gold coin, the collected sum of which will be donated at the closing of the exhibition to the Uniting Lentara, Vic. Tas Asylum Seeker Project. Over the course of her exhibition, ‘A Gold Boat for Gold Coin’ will index an audience, a dwindling display of boats and consequent gathering of funds for a crucial charitable cause.
