Stripes that project outwards into the third-dimension, that bend and curve or are tangled or distorted ― these are the devices used by Susanne Pearce to draw attention to painting as surface. This new series of acrylics on canvas presents a contemporary update of modernist abstraction through the re-invention of optical effects, including the physical manipulation and folding of the canvas. Marked with conceptual trickery and a gentle humour, Surface Play is a colourful and vibrant exhibition that delights in shifting perspectives.
