30 July – 16 August 2008: Orange

A group of Melbourne artists who are currently working together at LaTrobe College of Art & Design set themselves a challenge to address the theme ‘Orange’ in a range of mediums and styles.

Orange is vibrant; it’s a bold colour, a combination of red and yellow. It denotes energy, warmth, and the sun.  As a warm colour orange is a stimulant, stimulating the emotions and the appetite. Orange can be found in nature in the changing leaves of autumn and the setting sun. Orange warns us that change is imminent – it shouts out to be heard.   It is a colour that inspires strong feelings.   Is it a colour of safety, danger, or the anticipation of what is to come?

The resultant work covers a range ideas, with responses both figurative and non figurative, in diverse mediums, including painting, photography and sculpture.

Members of the group have exhibited extensively in both individual and group shows and are represented in private collections nationally and internationally.
