26 February – 15 March 2014: Barbara Pearce – Intermezzo

GALLERY 2:

Utilising aqueous veils of colour interjected with gestural mark making, Pearce explores the vital properties of beauty and the sublime through her latest body of works – Intermezzo

Working intuitively and exploiting the inherent qualities of water and pigment, Pearce employs both chance and accident as well as conscious consideration in her production process. This is evident in the serpentine compositional structure of Legato, contrasted by the irregular rhythmic patterns of works such as Syncopation.

Drawing on her interest in existentialism and philosophy as well as meditation and music, these abstract expressionist works are geared towards connoting a contemplative space of peace and respite; a kind of visual antidote to the angst and chaos of modern life.
