24 March – 11 April 2004: Anothony White – Animism

Anthony White

Gallery 3

A series of paintings, collages and mini-sculptures, the works playfully and often cryptically explore the notion of immaterial spirit from an animistic or primitive point of view. Substituting the visual language of animation and graphic representation for religious iconography, the works subtly suggest a dialogue between art and spirituality.

Anthony White has painted and worked in animation in Australia and overseas for over fourteen years and combines his artistic practice with his love of animated films and graphics.

White grew up in Sydney and completed a degree in marine biology before undertaking a cadetship with Hanna-Barbera animation studios. While in the United Kingdom he worked for companies such as Universal Pictures on animated features and series. More recently White has worked in computer game development, and Film Funding.
