23 January – 10 February 2007: Midsumma

Shifting Ground

Midsumma brings together a diverse mix of artists and performers under a single umbrella for an impassioned celebration and innovative presentation of queer art and culture. Links with a range of arts organizations, producers, venues and artists continue to be forged and strengthened from year to year. These relationships increasingly enable Midsumma to develop more sophisticated projects, access a greater range of artists and performers, and engage wider audiences.

The 2007 Midsumma Visual Arts program aims to celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of the gay community and contemporary queer aesthetics through our Arts Program. One of the major events for the 2007 Curated Visual Arts Program will be ‘Shifting Ground’, a photography exhibition showcasing the work of six contemporary, queer-identified photo-media artists who explore the construction, performativity and mutability of identity in their work. This exhibition is to be held at Red Gallery, North Fitzroy.
