Bad Impressions Cameron Bishop's practice investigates how national narratives and mythologies can be disturbed. Bad Impressions features new painting and animation that 'remake' or 'reconstitute' Australian Impressionist works from the Heidelberg School era. Painted on imported Luaun pine and exhibited alongside short animated loops, Bishop's images are populated with the remains of astromonks, historiographers and the dispossessed.
The intersection of traditional and new media has been a critical component of Bishop's practice in recent years, and in this exhibition highlights the presence of inside / outside power relations within both Australian identity politics and nationalist histories of Australian art.
Cameron Bishop is a Melbourne-based artist and writer. He teaches at Deakin University, where he completed a PhD in 2010. This exhibition extends some of the concepts he has been exploring in sculptural installations and writing over the last six years. Cameron has exhibited extensively in and around Melbourne for over a decade, and has also held shows in Dunedin, New Zealand and Hobart in 2009 with the collaborative group Bozo Ink. |

Binding Memories This exhibition features limited edition and unique state prints by each artist, as well as collaboratively produced works on paper. The title Binding Memories invokes a sense of woven time and a reconnection with the past. In some of these works, the tactile layering of patterned surfaces and tonal imprints mirrors the complex entanglements of memory and recollection.
As Marita Kelly and Belinda Lane have noted, 'It is the tranquillity and balance of our community, family and home that is to be captured. Like rummaging through an old childhood suitcase and taking out objects of affection, rekindling the emotional connection that is still there after many years. The foundation of these memories, the absorption of our environment, created the people we are today.' Marita Kelly and Belinda Lane are Melbourne-based artists. This is their first collaborative exhibition together. |

Long Socks
Longs Socks is an exploration of both the similarities and differences in three codes football: Soccer, Rugby Union and Australian Rules. In each of these sports there are identifying marks linking each to the tribe and then individual teams. The types of cheers, songs, and names given to certain moves are distinguishing differences that promote a sense of belonging to the tribe. Whilst each player wears a uniform of shirt, shorts and socks, there are slight differences in style, fabric and colours. However, in all three of these sports the team players wear long socks. The artwork consists of lino prints on paper and silk with collaged elements including knitted socks, maps of the grounds, rules and first aid instructions. Sally Darlison is a Melbourne based visual artist working in print and collage. Her works are included in collections in Australia and overseas.
