“I am interested in school chairs and rubbish left on food court tables.” Xavier Jones
Out of the studio and into the white cubes come six second-year students of RMIT’s Visual Arts school, and their disruptive, anxious, fascinated and entropic engagement with our chaotic world, the self, and the materials used to represent both.
Emerging 16 is a group show, curated by Nick Berry. It exposes the emerging practices of contemporary artists Xavier Jones, Tinieka Page, Isaac Christie, Billy Chiller, Sophie Freeman and Adrian De Vries, who use found/fine art components to play with sculpture, painting, and their understood conventions. It is an important statement by tomorrow’s collectible mark-makers.
